Following the terrible terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, many prominent liberals have infuriatingly shifted the conversation away from radical Islamic terrorism and the broader anti-gay sentiment of many Muslims toward stricter gun control and a disarming of the American people, to keep us safe from terrorists, or something like that.
But shock-jock talk radio host Howard Stern wasn’t buying that and made clear during his program Wednesday that not a single gun control law proposed by President Barack Obama or other liberals would have prevented the tragedy that took place at the club on Sunday.
According to The Daily Caller, Stern brushed off the old analogy of sheep, sheepdogs and wolves to make his point about why the broad disarming of the American people will not keep people safe, but will instead place them in even more danger.
In his typically salty and colorful way, Stern declared, “I’m so upset about Orlando and what went down, but I can’t believe these people who come out afterwards and their answer to Orlando is to take away guns from the public. It’s f***ing mind-blowing to me.”
“The military — and they don’t mean it in a derogatory way — but they look at the public as sheep,” he continued. “And we are sheep. Most of us sit around all day and we don’t know how to defend ourselves. We basically think everything’s okay.”
“Except the wolves — the bad guys, ISIS, or terrorists, homegrown or otherwise — they’re wolves. The military and police look at themselves as sheepdogs. They’re warriors, but on the good side.”
Stern proceeded to point out that the “wolves” can get their hands on any kind of weaponry they want to pull off their criminal or terrorist deeds. He also noted that some of the sheep in the flock are armed and prepared to take on the wolves if necessary, as there simply aren’t enough “sheepdogs” to protect every sheep at all times.
Referencing the fact that no firearms were used by the terrorists that hijacked airplanes on 9/11, Stern said, “The wolves are always planning. They’ll use box cutters. They’ll use an airplane, fly it right into a building. They don’t need AR-15s.”
“I don’t like violence — I don’t like any of this stuff — but I consider myself a sheep,” he added, turning his attention to the hypocritical politicians calling for more gun control. “Most of your politicians have private security, so they’re OK. Those are sheep that are very well protected. You, on the other hand, are a sitting duck.”
Stern summed it all up by simply declaring: “I’m not for taking away people’s rights.”
Howard Stern was absolutely correct in his use of the wolves and sheep analogy, though some may differ with his assessment of politicians as well-protected sheep, as many view them more as wolves disguising themselves in sheep’s clothing.
That said, there certainly are many brave and vigilant sheepdogs in our society, military service members, law enforcement officials, and of course veterans, most of whom would place their own lives on the line to protect the innocent and helpless sheep.
But Stern was also correct in noting that there are far too many helpless sheep for the relatively few sheepdogs to constantly watch over, which is why some sheep must remain armed, just in case a sheepdog isn’t nearby when the wolves show up unannounced.
We must let the sheep who choose to do so be armed for their own sake and the sake of others. That’s exactly why the Founders protected the right to bear arms in the Constitution.
